It's no secret that Honda is looking for a serious comeback in the middle segment of dual-purpose bikes, as street-oriented as they are nowadays. And with the NC700XD, it looks like Honda is getting a lot of attention.
Not only the Honda NC700XD is indeed a nifty bike for those who are not very tall, and its new feature will make it even more attractive: it's about automatic transmission, the Honda Dual Clutch Transmission or DTC.

This clutch is though different from the classic hydraulic or the CVT clutches. It really shifts by itself in drive mode and can be also triggered by the rider in the Manual (MT) mode. The DCT comes with 2 clutches, one shifting first, third and fifth gears, while the other shift second, fourth and sixth.

Shifting with the DTC is seamless and very fast as the next gear is preselected right after the present gear the bike's in is summoned by either rider or ECU. The Honda NC700XD comes with three transmission modes: manual or MT, Drive and Sport, and with the latter two the DCT works by itself.

The Honda NC700XD can be manually downshifted in automatic mode and the electronics on the bike will revert to full automatic mode when the need of engine brake is no longer detected. Honda hopes to get even more people to choose the NC700XD, as the predilection for automatic cars and bikes is a dominant feature of the North American market.
