More Honda bikes in the 2013 CB500 family are being recalled around the world, and today we’ve got news from the UK. It appears like The Great Britain was also affected by the incorrectly manufactured bolts retaining the rocker arms.
According to UK sources, Honda has identified the problem: some of these bolts may not have received the proper anti-corrosion treatment and as a result, they could come loose. This, in turn, could lead to oil leaks, which can result in engine malfunction and excessive wear. The motorcycles could experience loss of power and even stalling, increasing the risks of crashing.

The worst-case scenario could even see the bolts coming off completely, dislodging the rocker arm shaft, with potential extensive damage to the cylinder head.

The bikes affected by this recall are 2013 model year CBR500R, CB500F and CB500X machines, in the CB500FD/FAD/XD/XAD,CBR500RD/RAD families. All the three bikes share the same platform and obviously, the same 471cc parallel twin power unit.

UK’s Honda branch has started the standard recall procedures, notifying registered customers and advising the owners to contact their nearest dealer to schedule a repair, which is free of charge. Honda has also sold these bikes in the US, Japan and Australia, and similar recalls are issued in those markets, as well. No incidents or injuries have been so far reported.

Honda CB500-family machines have been introduced as 2013 models to complement the existing range of middleweight motorcycles addressing to customers in search of affordable, more fuel-efficient two-wheelers for new riders and commuters. They have been followed by a new series of 400cc-class similar machines, as well.
