The latest products the crazy and exclusive shop Hammacher Schlemmer uploaded on their web store is one funny piece of fabric. Reproducing Volkswagen Type 2’s exact feature, the VW Bus Tent is a near-scale replica that recreates everything but the Flower Power Bumper Stickers. It’s 72 inches (1,8 meters) high and will cost you $500 (EUR 368).
There are few people on this planet that never heard about the famous German-designed Volkswagen Beetle and even fewer that haven’t seen the Type 2 van, also known under the Transporter Kombl or Microbus names. As one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger vans, the Type 2 gave rise to forward control competitors in the United States in the 1960s, including the Ford Ecoline, the Dodge A100, and the Chevrolet Corvair 95 Corvan, the latter adopting the Type 2’s rear-engine configuration.
However, this precious minibus was by far considered to be the hippie van of choice, a vehicle that transported Flower Power teens to music festivals and campgrounds. It was the car most popular during the counterculture movement of the 1960s. So in a way, this tent could make any person staying in it travel back into that era.
