Somewhere in Texas, a tuning company is specialized in turning the output knob all the way to eleven. Other than that, Hennessey Performance Engineering also knows how to make the Lotus Elise go fast. Like really fast. Now, though, John Hennessey’s tuning shop decided to give the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor two extra wheels, as well as a considerable bump in power.
Originally developed for the Australian Defense Forces, the G-Class 6x6 light utility vehicle morphed into the G63 AMG 6x6, a six-wheeler behemoth that started the six-wheel-drive trend among street-legal offerings. Wild Boar then replicated the recipe with the Wrangler, and so did Kahn Design with the Land Rover Defender-based Flying Huntsman. Now Hennessey jumped on the six-wheel-drive bandwagon, and boy does the VelociRaptor 6X6 look gargantuan.
The “base model,” if it can be called that, is priced from $295,000. It’s a lot of money, I admit, but then again, so is the building block for this tuning special: the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor. The pricing for the VelociRaptor 6X6 includes the donor vehicle in SuperCrew form, as well as better suspension from Fox Racing, 20-inch wheels wrapped in off-road rubber, modified bumpers front and rear, a rollbar, an assortment of LED lights, and locking rear axles.
If the Raptor’s 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost feels underpowered to you, Hennessey is willing to ramp things up in exchange for $22,500. The greenback includes ECU re-tuning, better air-to-air intercooler, plumbing, turbos, and a stainless steel exhaust system. In numbers, these updates equate to 600-plus horsepower, a significant increase compared to the stock tune (450 ponies).
“Our VelociRaptor 6X6 is pure aggression on wheels – all six of them”, explains John Hennessey. “The new 2017 Raptor is going to be one of the best all-around trucks ever built. We are excited to help take it to the next level both in terms of performance and exclusivity.” Now available to order from Hennessey or select Hennessey / Ford dealerships, the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6X6 can also be specced with Brembo brakes, tailor-made interior trim and exotic leathers, as well as armoring systems.
