If you're a beer aficionado, there's nothing better than having a cold beer during a hot summer day or after a tiring day at work. But what do you do when you have no desire to go out and buy yourself one (or more)? You make it. No, not in the traditional way, 'cause smart beer machines are a thing now.
Dutch startup MiniBrew has developed a beer-brewing device that combines all the methods needed for making your own beer at home. Everything is fully automated, from the boiling and cooling cycle to the fermentation process.
Look-wise, it sports a wooden back, a transparent mashing tun, and a copper-colored keg that makes it resemble a traditional barrel. The appliance also has a built-in cooler that can preserve the beer for up to three months.
Don't let the appearance of the keg fool you, though. It's a smart device that can brew, store, and serve beer. Usually, brewing takes around three to five hours, and each keg is able to deliver up to 17 glasses of tapped beer at an optimal temperature.
According to MiniBrew, fermenting can take between 10 to 25 days, depending on the recipe used. The whole brewing and fermentation process can be tracked and controlled via an iPhone app.
It's worth mentioning that you'd also need a Brew Pack that includes grains, hops, and yeast to be able to actually make the beer. The packs feature 10 different recipes you can choose from, and their prices range between $22 and $48.84.
For each Brew Pack, the machine calculates the amount of water needed and decides the mashing, boiling, and fermenting scheme. It also rinses and cleans itself after the process is done, so you don't have to worry about the hassle of cleaning it every time you use it.
As comfort comes with a price, so does the MiniBrew, which scores a price of $1,219. While there's not even a chance comparing the smart device's cost with the one of a beer can (or 16 to be more precise), for beer lovers, this is a nice item to have around, especially when you bring over some friends on a hot summer day.
