Longtime partners Porsche and Tag Heuer (plus Porsche Latin America) have recently presented a pair of 'Sonderwunsch' one-offs based on the feisty 718 Cayman GT4 RS at Rennsport Reunion 7 as a tribute to the legendary Carrera Panamericana race held in Mexico.
This past weekend's big fan meet-up at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California – Porsche Rennsport Reunion 7 – was a spectacular glimpse into the German brand's future, present, and past with a particular focus on motorsport. It's also heralded as the most significant Porsche meeting in the world, so the four-day car festival was unlike any (single-brand) other – and had around 91,000 people in attendance.

Sure, one could say it's not the same as the Goodwood Festival of Speed or the Monterey Car Week, but that's just because the format excludes anything else that doesn't relate to Porsche. Luckily, its partners were allowed, and Porsche Latin America plus TAG Heuer celebrated their relationship with a spectacular tribute to Mexico's Carrera Panamericana.

Porsche and TAG Heuer have worked together for years, and their relationship has now evolved from the motorsport partnership and collaborative watch launches into the uncharted territory of developing an exclusive car project. More precisely, the two companies are introducing a unique "Sonderwunsch" project based on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

There are two one-off cars involved in the collaboration, one with the racing number 154 and the other with 152 on the sides and roof, both as an ode to the pair of customer teams that competed seven decades ago in Mexico's spectacular Carrera Panamericana with a Porsche 550 Coupé each. The legendary Mexican road race was also celebrated by Jack Heuer – who presented no less than six decades ago the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph - a chronograph wristwatch dedicated to racing drivers.

As such, there's logic behind producing not one but two cars with the same one-off specifications – it's a double anniversary for both Porsche and Tag Heuer. Inspired by the 550 Coupés that raced during the 1953 edition of Carrera Panamericana, the two 718 Cayman GT4 RS were modified to resemble their ancestor.

Interestingly, only number 154 was in attendance at the 'TAG Heuer Heritage Experience' exhibition, and Patrick Dempsey, tame racing driver, actor, and Tag Heuer ambassador, will race this year's Carrera Panamericana later this month during the first and second stages. The second car, number 152, "which differs only slightly from the first car," will be auctioned with the proceeds going to a good cause early next year.

As for highlights, both 718 Cayman GT4 RS sports cars have yellow-painted racing numbers on the doors and roofs, Le Mans Silver Metallic finishes, Tag Heuer logos on the hood, rear wing's side blades, and the air filter box of the mid-mounted boxer mill, plus the wheel hub covers. There's also a Pegasus motif and a bunch of special features inside: Guards Red leather seats, tricolored cross-stitching in the shades of the Mexican flag and the Tag Heuer logo, plus a bespoke stopwatch module in the center console for car number 154.
