Hamilton Admits Partial Fault in Alonso Feud

Lewis Hamilton reckoned that the difficult situation between him and 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso during the days they were teammates in the McLaren garage was partially his fault. However, that didn't happen because his team reportedly gave him special treatment during the 2007 season, but because he misinterpreted the goals of the team for that particular campaign.

Coming in the McLaren garage as a rookie, while partnering a double world champion, was something he coped with quite well, as he finished the season one point ahead of Alonso. However, the feud that appeared between the two midway through the season – when the Spaniard accused McLaren for favoring the Brit – caused an inevitable split at the end of the year, when Alonso chose to terminate his deal with McLaren and switch to Renault.

At the beginning of my first year I was up alongside the two-time world champion and he was seen as the guy to win the world championship and I think at the time I misinterpreted and misunderstood the goals and the understanding of how the team worked,” said Ham in an interview with the BBC, while insisting McLaren did everything right to give both drivers equal chances in the championship.

But since I've been here they do everything to give us individually the best package possible. I've never had more than the guy next to me, we've always had equal opportunity, which is the greatest thing in a team.”

Inevitably people say things sometimes when they haven't done so well. You say things out of anger; you say things that you potentially don't mean. That's how I see it from the others,” added the 2008 F1 champion.
