Goteborg to Host Volvo Adventure Finalists

Volvo Adventure, the worldwide environmental competition has found its finalist: 75 young students along with 25 teachers from ten different countries.

They will be present in the Swedish city Goteborg starting June 5 and will present their environmental projects on June 8. The prize giving ceremony, which is scheduled on June 9, will be held in the Volvo hall at Volvo Cars’ headquarters.

The Volvo Adventure is open to all young students age 13 to 16-year-old. The team who wins first place will get $10,000, second place will get $6,000, and third place team will receive $4,000.

This year, 379 teams from 56 countries entered the competition. The ten finalists come from Mexico, Isle of Man, Hungary, USA, India, Brazil, China, Egypt, Russia and Turkey.

Teacher Helena Sagar, from Kullaviksskolan junior high school near Göteborg, will host the teams, guiding and helping them during the 6 days visit. Mrs. Sagar and her pupils have been hosting the Volvo Adventure final for a few years now, so they already know what they have to do.

"Volvo Adventure is simply great!", Helena Sagar says. "It is so great, from different perspectives, that it is hard to describe in words, it has to be experienced! Nobody seems to understand how big it is. My students say that it is their best experience from their time in compulsory school and several of them have built relations that last for ever."

According to Volvo, the projects concern all from protecting dolphins and manatees, recycling of paper, environmental education run by youngsters, handling of used oil, cleaning a beautiful river, to learn other to recycle and not throw waste, sun light heater with recycling waste, to not waste the precious water, save biodiveristy and thus save money for the cities and to make the students to cycle to school.
