Gooding & Co., the famous US auction house, is gearing up for their annual Arizona sale next month with a number of Sixties supercars. The Scottsdale event is the place to be if you want a supercar from what is surely the best era for famed European performance names.

If we had to pick a favorite, it would be the 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, aka the Don Wester, sporting Porsche Car Pacific chassis number 904-017. The car, that can boast with an outstanding race history, is estimated to fetch a cool $1.2 to $1.6 million (EUR0.9 to EUR1.2 million). The one up for auction was used to beat Phil Hill, who was driving a Cobra, at Candlestick Park in 1965.

Also up for grabs will be a barn find 1964 Shelby Cobra and 1965 Shelby GT350 R. Said to be the only unrestored Cobra in blue and red livery, the ‘64 spent 33 years in unloved and unseen but is in surprisingly good condition. It began life as Carroll Shelby's promo car at SoCal racing venues, was dredged up from the deep to do the Postwar Preservation Class at this year's Pebble Beach, and now expects to find a good home for around $525,000 (EUR396,000). The Shelby GT350 R is a rare breed of pony, one of 26 that was campaigned and did plenty of winning in the B-Production Championship in the sixties.

“We are honored to present the private collection of Benny Caiola in Scottsdale this January. These modern supercars represent an exciting shift in the collector hobby, where today’s leading prototypes are now being considered to be instant collectibles on the international stage,” says David Gooding, President and founder of Gooding & Company.

The annual Scottsdale Auctions will be held on Friday, January 21st and Saturday, January 22nd, commencing at 11 am.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
