Sunny South Africa should have been the ideal place to have fun with a Golf GTI, but not for the guy participating a press even in this red rocket.
According to zero2turbo.com, the brand new Golf 7 GTI crashed into a cyclist on a road near Johannesburg. The rider ended up with a broken arm and cuts due to the impact with the windscreen. The car doesn't look too bad either, but the roof appears buckled, which is going to be costly to fix.
Sources say the driver reported problems with the steering wheel, which caused to car to veer into the opposite lane. For now, we don't know if this is a simple problem due to the engine cutting out or the complicated lane-assisting technology.
Either way, this appears to be a full-spec press car with the optional Performance package installed. It's going to dent VW's marketing efforts a bit, by the looks of things.
