First of all, GM says the Chevrolet Malibu retail sales were increased by 129 percent, with approximately 11,000 vehicles sold this month and 98,000 units the whole year. The recently-launched Pontiac Vibe also met increasing popularity on the available markets, with 6 percent total sales increase in October. GM managed to sell more than 42,000 Vibes this year, up 36 percent from the prior year, according to figures provided by GM.
Malibu is not the only Chevrolet model which sold well around the world as approximately 44,500 Silverado and Avalanche full-size pickups were delivered in October.
GM's hybrid market also grew up with a total of 1,496 hybrid vehicles sold in October. The most popular models were Chevrolet Tahoe (372 units), GMC Yukon (193 units), Cadillac Escalade (230 units), Chevrolet Malibu (325 units) and Saturn Aura (22 units). GM says that more than 10,500 hybrids were sold in 2008, with figures expected to reach 12,000 units by the end of 2008.
“These are extraordinary times for the U.S. economy, for consumers and for an auto industry that is running at deep recessionary levels relative to 1999-2006,” LaNeve said. “We are offering the highest quality and best value vehicles to customers in our history – along with great incentives. But we can’t do it alone as GM or the auto industry. It will take a coordinated national effort to turn this economy around.”
