General Motors will introduce "some interesting powertrain technologies" for its large SUV lineup over the next few years, which could also include a diesel engine for the 2015 Cadillac Escalade.
"We've got some interesting powertrain technologies coming on the SUVs over the next few years. In this segment, the competition is tough. You've got to raise the bar," said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer for GM trucks, adding that Cadillac is also considering a new hybrid powertrain and a diesel engine for the 2015 Escalade.
Other updates in store for the new luxury SUV include a high-geared transmission, either an eight-speed or a ten-speed box, that would replace the current six-speed automatic.
The 2015 Cadillac Escalade was revealed earlier this month in New York City with redesigned exterior and a more luxurious interior that no longer resembles the Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon it's based upon.
