While the industry’s achieved an average growth of 7% in October, GM was one of the corporations which brought the figure slightly down, managing just a 5% overall increase in US sales last month. They managed to shift 195,764 vehicles, helped by strong retail sales, which offset the lower demand from fleet customers.
GM says that retail sales went up by 7%, while fleet deliveries dropped 2%, due to a period of “political uncertainty before they return to the market”. They also noted that pickup sales went up by 8%, when compared to the same period of last year, despite the fact that the entire range is aging, and GM is well aware of the fact - they will be launching a complete range of redesigned pickups next summer, for the 2014 model year.

Great news for Greenpeace, as sales of the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade declined by between 23% and 30%, as perhaps buyers’ preferences are shifting towards more fuel-efficient types of vehicles - let’s just hope this is the case.
