If you’re a respectable car collector or just happen to love you car(s) very much, a basic garage will simply not do. Not even your personal mansion with auto gallery is good enough in this context, but a motoring club might just work.
The latest trend in the world of car enthusiasts is the one-stop-shop-type of facility, where you don’t just get to take your car(s) in for storage, but can also count on detailing servicing and general maintenance, a concierge service of pick-up and drop-off and, if possible, access to an exclusive members’ club. It’s basically like taking your car to a 5-star hotel / spa and letting it get the best treatment money can buy while you chill nearby with your friends.
The idea is certainly not new, but it is perfected to a T. If regular folks have storage containers for stuff they no longer use, car collectors are being offered custom spaces for their vehicles and many services and amenities as extra incentive.
In fact, we’ve already covered a similar facility in Miami, Florida, called The Hangar, where car enthusiasts could buy their own hangars, either one- or two-story, depending on their needs. The Barrett Automotive Group motoring club is slightly different, in that it offers the space on a monthly or yearly basis, with prices starting at $350 for storage, and that it offers full servicing for all vehicles.
Anything from cars (“any collector vehicle including antique, pre-war, vintage and exotic cars”), motorcycles and even small marine vehicles are accepted for storage at the new, 20,000-square-foot (1,858-square-meter) facility that opened just recently in Moorpark, California, just north of Los Angeles. Chargers for EVs can also be added, should owners need them.
In addition to storage, members get access to the exclusive lounge (which makes this a sort of motoring club), full servicing and concierge pick-ups and drop-offs. Vehicle specialists employed by Barrett Automotive Group have a 3-decade experience in automotive care, so you know your most prized possessions are in good hands. You also know for a fact that they will be ready to go whenever you need them, whether it’s for a show or a simple joyride.
Around the clock monitoring and temperature-controlled rooms will give owners peace of mind as regards leaving their vehicles there. Barrett says security was a top priority when building the new facility given the kind of vehicles we’re talking about, as was offering a controlled environment to protect the valuable collectibles inside.
For those times when owners won’t just drop off their cars, they will be able to hang around and enjoy a rotating collection of art and artifacts, take in the panoramic views from any of the lounge areas, catch a movie in the home theater or have some fun in the dedicated entertainment area. Think of something along the lines of a state-of-the-art, incredibly elegant man cave that you get to share with like-minded individuals.
A full coffee bar and office space for members are additions still being considered, which will further take this facility into the realm of a genuine motoring club.
“Our goal is to give our members an intimate and exclusive experience,” Barrett Automotive Group founder Kevin Barrett says in a statement. “We want to make our members feel like they are part of a community by giving them a place to gather with friends and other members to relax and share their passion for automobiles.”
Though the Group was founded in 2019, Barrett has been in the auto industry since 1996. He came up with the idea of building a place where fellow car enthusiasts like himself would trust him with their cars, knowing he would take care of them as if they were his own.
“I just have a passion for cars and like interacting with clients. It's about hospitality, helping people out, and making their lives easier,” Barrett says.
