Giedo Van Der Garde Secured 2011 GP2 Seat with Addax

Giedo van der Garde has recently told the media that he is thinking of a “plan B” after failing to secure an F1 spot with Marussia Virgin Racing. And less than 24 hours later, his management did its job in getting him a full campaign in the GP2 Series with Addax, for the second year running.

I am happy to have cleared up next year's plans and would like to thank the Addax team for its confidence,” said the Dutchman, who will attempt to win the GP2 title next season to get a better shot at making an entrance to Formula One.

The GP2 Series will be racing with a brand-new chassis in 2011, which means everyone will start from scratch with the set-up of the car. A new chassis obviously brings a great challenge so I am extremely motivated to fight for the championship and continue to work on my ultimate goal which is to race in a competitive Formula 1 seat.

I am extremely satisfied with Giedo's decision to stay with us for one more year. I am absolutely convinced this is the right decision in order for him to make it to Formula 1 in a competitive race seat,” added Addax team boss Alejandro Agag.

I think next year Giedo will be an extraordinarily strong candidate to win the GP2 championship - and we have seen what has happened with this year's champion, he has landed a drive with Williams, one of F1's top teams.”

2011 will be van der Garde's 3rd attempt to become GP2 champion, following his 2009 campaign with iSport International and 2010 with Addax. At the end of both those seasons, his efforts were only good for 7th place in the end.
