German Government to Meet Ecclestone, as Scheduled

Ecclestone's public apologies for his pro-Hitler comments the other weekend seem to have paid off, as it has now emerged that his meeting with the German politicians for the saving of the Hockenheim Ring will take place as initially scheduled, the very upcoming weekend.

Following the Ecclestone-Hitler saga, a story that made the headlines of all major motorsport publications in recent days, German state premier Gunther Oettinger had allegedly canceled its scheduled meeting with the F1 boss, at Nurburgring. Spokesman Christoph Dahl himself confirmed the news, while suggesting the cause for the decision was Ecclestone's controversial comments.

However, as reported by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport earlier today, is seems the meeting will go down this weekend, during the German Grand Prix, but Ecclestone will still not meet Oettinger at the discussion table. Instead, “a lawyer or another representative of the Baden-Wurttemberg state is to join Ecclestone for talks”, as reported by the GMM news agency.

This latest reports was again confirmed by government spokesman Christoph Dahl. Quite obvious, Oettinger could not attend the meeting because of Ecclestone's comments, but will try to find a solution to the Hockenheim problem through a Christian Democratic Union party representative.

Hockenheim was recently confirmed as the no longer beneficiary of governmental funds to sustain its once-every-two-years Formula One race. This issue is obviously posing a threat to the very existence of the German Grand Prix next year, as it was not yet confirmed that Nurburgring will replace the Baden-Wurttemberg based venue as host of the German race.
