General Motors to Display 37 Models at Shanghai

Even if the company already confirmed that it won't show up at a number of auto events this year, General Motors is planning to display a total of 37 models at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2009 that begins on April 20.

More specifically, General Motors will showcase both production and concept vehicles designed by many of its brands, including Buick, Chevrolet Cadillac and Saab. Furthermore, it will display a prototype designed by the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), GM's automtovie engineering and design joint venture.

“Our display will highlight the design, technology and fuel economy leadership of GM and our joint ventures in China,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “It will show local vehicle buyers the great selection of products available today and some of the exciting products they can expect tomorrow from the GM China family.”

Among the models to be showcased at the show, we can mention the next-geenration Buick LaCrosse premium sedan, the Cadillac SRX mid-size luxury crossover - both of them projected to go on sale later this year - as well as GM's second hybrid to be sold in China - Cadillac Escalade Hybrid SUV, the Buick New Regal 2.0 Turbo intermediate sedan and a production version of Chevrolet Volt.

Shanghai OnStar Telematics Co. Ltd., GM’s new telematics joint venture that will launch its services in China later this year, will also make its first appearance at a show.

“General Motors has made a long-term commitment to China,” said Wale. “Despite the challenges that GM and our industry now face, we believe our best years are ahead of us. One look at the GM China family’s lineup on display at Auto Shanghai 2009 will convince even the most hardened skeptics.”
