Lotus Team Racing, the new entry in the 2010 Formula 1 season, announced this week it has signed a five year extension of the contract of the man who oversaw the team's debut. Chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne will stay with Lotus until the middle of the decade, hoping to keep up the work which has made Lotus one of the best new teams of the year.
According to Gascoyne, if everything goes right, another extension, this time beyond 2015, might be considered. The engineer added that he started out with Lotus with the goal of ending his career with the team.
"Having started the team from scratch with Tony it was always my intention to finish my career here, so it's great to have formally agreed a five year deal," Gascoyne was quoted as saying by Autosport.
“I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to Tony, Din, Nasa, Riad and the whole team, and I'm extremely grateful to everyone involved in Lotus Racing for having the confidence to take this into a long-term contract.”
Tony Fernandes, the man who is leading the team, says he enjoyed the current season very much, despite the fact that Lotus Team Racing is currently in 10th position.
“It shows just how serious we are, not only about how far ahead we are setting our aspirations, but also as a reward to Mike for the incredibly hard work he and the team have already put in to get us from literally four people back in September '09 to our current position as a serious F1 player with a very bright future ahead of us,” the team boss said.
