Kovalainen Impressed with Lotus in 2010

From the new entry teams of Formula One in 2010, it's needless to mention the fact that Lotus F1 Team has enjoyed the best development rate in the first half of the ongoing campaign. Although starting the season some 3 to 4 seconds behind the existing teams, the Norfolk-based organization worked hard and reduced that to less than one and a half seconds after 10 events in 2010.

Obviously, one major role in that decent development rate belonged to the drivers inside the T127, both Grand Prix winners in the past and both very good at improving a car race after race. Despite still battling for positions in Q1 and hoping to finish a race with both cars – something that began to happen quite often in recent grands prix – Heikki Kovalainen insisted he is impressed with the progress made by Lotus in 2010.

I think it's gone better than I was expecting. In terms of performance, in terms of developing the team and the car, moving away from the other new teams and catching the cars ahead of us, I think we've done better than expected,” said the Finnish driver ahead of this weekend's German Grand Prix.

We look cool; we have a new motorhome, the team looks professional. It looks cool and it runs like any other professional race team, so that's very good,” added Heikki about the team headed by Mike Gascoyne.

Kovalainen admitted however that the thing that held the team back in the first half of 2010 was poor reliability, which is now starting to improve as the campaign progresses.

Perhaps the reliability problems have been worse than I thought they would be. I think it's also fair to say that the hydraulics have been letting us down too many times, so I don't think the supplier has done a good enough job, but in the last few races that has been improved,” added Kova, who is to be confirmed by his team for the 2011 season, alongside his current teammate Jarno Trulli.
