Game Over: Lexus RC F's New Orange Color Gets a Name

Lexus changed a lot in the last year, wishing to lift off its old-men-car manufacturer reputation. It started with redesigning its cars using fresh nonconformist lines, then it expanded the hybrid powertrains to more models, improved its interiors and now is focusing on creating a new bond with younger people.
Not long ago, Lexus challenged its UK Facebook fans to invent a cool name for the all-new blazing orange paint that will be available on the RC F model. Hundreds of suggestions have been submitted, and four weeks later “Solar Flare” appears the most appealing to the manufacturer.

“We were impressed by the huge response and the creativity shown by our Facebook fans, who took up the challenge with enthusiasm,”
said Lexus UK director Richard Balshaw. “Solar Flare was chosen as we think it captures the power and excitement of the RC F, as well as the impact of the paint finish itself.”

The “Solar Flare” entry was suggested by five posts on the official Lexus UK Facebook page, being submitted by Peter Robert Shaumburg Fodor, Paul Britt, Joe Etlwein, Matt Frenchy and Krisstian Allen.

The new orange color is absolutely new in Lexus’ lineup and it has been created to visually enhance the new RC F’s spirit and capabilities. The car gets its power from a 5-liter V8 gasoline unit that makes over 450 hp and 520 Nm of torque. Using carbon fiber parts, an eigh-speed direct-shift transmission, active rear wing and a torque vectoring differential, the RC F promises almost LFA-like performance.
