Nowadays, we’re faced with fascinating choices when it comes to both exotic supercars as well as American classics. Some of them tend to interject price-wise, and for good reason. Take this 1967 Shelby Mustang GT350 for example. It’s undergone a full refurbishment and is now worth as much as a Lamborghini Huracan.
That’s a good problem to have though – whether to buy an Italian exotic or a classic muscle car. Usually, the people who can afford one can also afford both. Now, if your ideal classic muscle car is more of a collectible rather than something you can “daily”, it might be worth looking at the 1967 model year Shelby GT350.

Compared to older iterations, the 1967 model year car benefited from the general redesign undertaken by Ford for the Mustang, which became a heavier car, while also gaining a longer hood, plus new front and rear fascias. That was the year when the Mustang started its metamorphosis into a muscle car (from a pony car).

It also helped Carroll Shelby achieve his goal of making his Mustangs look more aggressive than the “regular” ones. Notable changes included the grille-mounted separate high-beam headlights, the hood scoop, horizontal taillights (sourced from the 1967 Cougar), functional brake-cooling scoops at the rear, and an integrated Kamm-type rear spoiler.

These cars came with a 289 ci (4.7L) V8 as standard, factory rated at 306 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. This was a surprisingly high-revving engine, with drivers often needing to drift towards the 6,000-rpm redline in order to unleash peak output.

In terms of performance, you could accelerate to 60 mph in about seven seconds, which may not sound like much but keep in mind that those old gearboxes did nothing to aid quick sprint times. As for its top speed, it was rated at 140 mph, which was more than respectable.

Got your attention? Good, because we’d like to show you a very special 1967 Shelby GT350 today. It’s up for grabs to the highest bidder, wearing its factory Dark Blue colorway with white over-the-top and side stripes. The car underwent a full refurbishment and emerged victorious. With just a few hours left to bid, somebody has already put down $202,000 for it. If you haggle long enough, you should be able to find a used Lamborghini Huracan for that money.

Other highlights, as far as this GT350 is concerned, include the 15-inch Magstar wheels with Goodyear Speedway bias-ply tires, power steering, power-assisted front discs, black vinyl front bucket seats, a fold-down rear bench, push-button AM/FM radio, the Shelby-specific roll bar, three-point front seatbelts, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a few auxiliary gauges.

As for the engine, it’s that same 289 ci V8 we just talked about, but with a twist. It’s been fitted with a Paxton/Shelby centrifugal supercharger, although we’re not exactly sure how much horsepower is being sent to the rear wheels via the four-speed manual gearbox.
