The Nissan Leaf was the first properly engineered electric car available for the masses. It sales figures are decent and on the rise, so Nissan has decided that it’s time to expand their EV range significantly over the next 3 years.
The first car on their list is the Leaf. They plan to update and improve it and also give it trim levels to make it more appealing for buyers who didn’t quite have enough money to buy the current car which comes fully loaded and with very few optional-extras. Next to arrive will be an electric version of NV200 commercial vehicle called the e-NV200, followed by a production version of the Infiniti LE Concept, a luxury electric sedan. The final car to be revealed will be a small city runabout which will take its inspiration from Nissan’s many PIVO concepts, and it's aimed at young people.
With a line-up like that, Nissan is thinking ahead and planning their range carefully, and the absence of a sporty electric car shows that they are playing it safe.
