Four-Cylinder Engines Gaining Terrain, U.S Study Reveals

Who would have thought that the V8-reign would lose its charm in America? As the world tendency leans more towards fuel-efficiency, the gas guzzling V8 is starting to lose ground. Fact revealed by the Americannew car buyers' decision to take home vehicles that are powered by four cylinders engines.

A recent study by IHS Automotive revealed that 43 percent of all new cars that were bought in the first six months of 2011 had four cylinder propulsion. A total opposite situation from the year 2005 when a similar percent had six cylinder engines.

We’d also mention the fact that the remaining 57 percent of vehicles bought in the first six months featured six, eight or twelve-cylinder engines. As an outcome of the growing fuel prices fleet sales have suffered major decreases.

The V8 “charm” dropped when fuel prices grew, fact revealed by the huge contrast from just a few years ago. Back in 2005, one of every three cars featured a V8. By the beginning of 2011 the figure dropped significantly, meaning that only one out of every six cars had a V8. But as buyers try to adapt to fuel prices, so are the manufacturers which started developing new alternative technologies which could replace the old fashioned ones, making this way possible the overcoming of the fuel crisis.

While consumers are being more concerned about fuel economy than they were couple of years ago, they are getting more technology for what they are paying for thanks to technological breakthroughs.
