As our hands shake goodbye to this year’s Baselworld luxury timepieces fair, we can once again look at the rather regular, affordable models. Now we can talk about hundred-dollar collectibles, rather than thousand, if not tens of thousand-dollar watches that most of us, petrolheads will never get to buy. One of Ferrari Store’s new addition can easily compete in that division since it delightfully combines both luxurious, high-end values and classic cars flavor.
Yep, you can get one without having to save money for a year. But let us a little closer.

Our journey starts with the general look. This model is part of the new Scuderia Ferrari Formula Italia collection of limited editions strap timepieces. It means it's inspired by the interior materials and colors of revered 1960’s Ferrari racing cars with a sportive new twist. However, the Formula Sportiva line adds a distinctive new dial feature evocative of 70’s racing cars.

The perforated metallic dial in black, gunmetal gray or silver was suggested by the perforated leather steering wheels and ventilated drivers’ gloves prevalent in that era. The dials are detailed by an applied metallic Racing Shield logo, minute track, and date display. Three-hand models sport large Arabic numerals that replicate the font found on the dashboard gauges of the Ferrari 156 F1.

Moreover, each model features applied markers and side-by-side subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock, typical for the 1960s and 1970s chronographs. The classically sculpted case - 43 mm wide for the 3-hand, and 45 mm for the chronograph - is crafted from solid stainless steel with a brushed/polished, gun metal or rose gold ion-plated finish.

Choices may vary from black or brown leather straps with contrast stitching and stainless steel while mesh-link bracelets enhance the retro appeal of these timepieces powered by precise quartz engines.

The price? $345 (EUR314). Not bad for a collectible, right?
