Ford’s Chinese division will invest approximately $600 (EUR458 million) million to increase the manufacturing capacity of its Asian factory. They want to reach almost 60 percent higher production rates on the world’s largest auto market.
The automaker’s factory is in the southwestern of China, in the Chongqing City. Currently they produce around 600,000 vehicles and after the expansion, Ford’s Chinese unit wants to reach 950,000 cars per year. This is no surprise as many automakers decided to construct or expand factories in Asia, given that the Chinese auto industry presents now the biggest growth market in the world.
Ford’s production increase is part of a plan that the company established in order to bump the annual global sales by 50 percent and reach 8 million vehicles by 2015. After the aggressive growth plan, the car manufacturer desires to have one third of its deliveries in Asia by 2020.
To ensure that they’ll stick with the plan, Ford will introduce 15 new vehicles and 20 new powerplants and transmissions by 2015.
