Ford’s latest Focus RS is a stunning piece of work, but some customers want even more, so the company is working on a version that’s likely to become the successor of the RS500.
One of the prototypes of the upcoming Focus RS500 has been spotted while being tested on European roads.
Fortunately for us, our friends at CarPix were there to snap a few shots of the car in action. These are the first spyshots of the upcoming performance model, so we must analyze the prototype carefully.
First of all, we see a new hood, which has extra vents on it. The front bumper also has some modifications to it, especially to the inlets near the fog lights.
These improvements make us believe Ford has reasons to require enhanced cooling for the front brakes and the engine of this version of the Focus RS.
These cooling requirements do not come without an increase in power and performance, so fans of the hot hatch from Ford should expect a car with a significant upgrade in that department.
While imperceptible to the naked eye, Ford’s Focus RS undoubtedly has received some changes to the suspension and braking systems. Most likely, the future RS500 version will bring even more powerful brakes, or at least a system which can dissipate heat faster, thus improving performance over sustained periods of heavy braking.
Eventual tweaks to the suspension are possible, but unconfirmed. We will have to wait for the official reveal of the production version to know for sure what kind of improvements have been performed.
The Ford engineer that is driving this model has a device fitted to the dash that is used for measuring G-forces, acceleration, and other indicators of performance. The automaker would not have employed a device like this without adding more than just horsepower to the RS.
