Ford StreetKa Is the Best Second-Hand Convertible

Ford StreetKa has been selected as the UK’s best second-hand convertible of the last decade, as shown by a research perfected by online retailer Carsite.

As the convertibles season is approaching its peak, Carsite evaluated the most popular second-hand models in terms of reliability, depreciation, running costs and customer satisfaction to create a list of the 20 best used topless vehicles.

The StreetKa claimed the No. One spot of the British top. Based on the Ka model, the StreetKa soft-top was introduced in 2003 with the help of pop artist Kylie Minogue. The vehicle was aimed at the female new car buyers segment of the market.

Unlike some ‘top twenties’ that contain exotic and expensive models such as Ferrari and Lamborghini convertibles, Carsite wanted to produce a list that relates to the real UK motorist. These models were tallied based on factors such as value, reliability and ownership satisfaction – key concerns for the average used car buyer. The Ford StreetKa took the top-spot with a strong performance across our used car criteria,” said Carsite’s Alistair Jeff.

The Mazda MX-5 followed closely, as it is a popular vehicle that has been on the market for over 20 years and has conquered British motorists as it offers a stylish appearance, reliability, value for money as is incredibly fun to drive. The third place was taken by the MINI One convertible (entry level version of the MINI convertible range).

British car drivers are among the biggest buyers of convertible models in Europe, with prices of the most in-demand models fluctuating by almost £2000 over the 12 month buying cycle. The busiest period for buying drop-tops is the summer, where Carsite found some prices were almost 20% more than in the middle of winter,” stated the press release.

The research also reveals that convertibles retain, on average, between 4-5 percent more value, compared to the hardtop versions they are based on.
