Ford Motor Co. says its Focus compact is the No.1 seller in the world now, but Toyota Motor Corp. laughs in its face and disagrees.
According to the latest sales data released Wednesday, Ford sold 589,709 Focus modes in the first half of 2013, representing a 20 percent increase over the six-month period in 2012. For the company, this counts in for placing the Focus nameplate as the top-seller, like back in 2012 and 2013 Q1.
However, Toyota’s data shows it sold 590,760 variations of the Corolla nameplate in the first half of 2013, not including derivatives such as the Matrix.
Toyota also said Ford’s “judgement mistake” comes from the fact that R.L. Polk & Co., which handles the sales reports, doesn’t get data from all countries the Corolla is sold, resulting in a smaller number.
