As some of you know, Ford is experiencing financial difficulties regarding its European operations, with the carmaker’s production sites having to compete against each other for survival.
The latest rumors in the German media suggest that Ford could relocate the Fiesta’s production from Koln, Germany to Craiova, Romania. This would seriously reduce productions costs - for instance, the wages in Craiova is reported to be up to ten times smaller compared to those in Koln.

Nonetheless, this is all just speculation, based on a statement Ford made in December last year, when the company said it would have to talk with the German union leaders regarding the production of the next-generation Fiesta.

First of all, this means that if they ever relocate the production, this won’t happen until 2017, the date when the Koln’s workforce contract expires. The move would obviously be a breath of fresh air for the people over in Craiova, as the factory has been having repeated pauses, while Koln is working three shifts.

Even so, we don’t find this rumor as being very likely, simply because there have been sustained efforts to keep the Fiesta in Koln in the past.
