Ford Resumes Chinese Transit Production

After earlier today Japanese carmaker Toyota announced it will resume production at the five plants it idled this week on account of the accelerator pedal recall, American manufacturer Ford and its Chinese partner, Jiangling Motors, announced the production of Transit Classic vans in China will also be resumed.

Ford announced the halt in production for the Transit Classic last week, as a precautionary measure. The Ford's built in China use accelerator pedals manufactured by CTS Corp., the same supplier which manufactures the faulty pedals in the recalled Toyota's.

According to the internal research did by Jiangling, the pedals coming from CTS are in no way affected by the Toyota recall. No problems in the respective vehicles have been reported, Jiangling says, while Ford says the Transit Classic is the only vehicle to use gas pedal parts made by CTS.

This announcement comes as a breath of fresh air for CTS, who became the collateral victim of Toyota. CTS can now safely say there's nothing wrong with their products, but the problem lies within Toyota's designs or some other part of the cars themselves.

"We are disappointed that CTS accelerator pedals have been frequently associated with the sudden unintended acceleration problems and incidents in various media reports,” Dennis Thornton, CTS general manager said in a release yesterday, trying to put to rest fears that the Toyota problem originated from CTS.

Toyota announced yesterday it has found a solution to fix the faulty accelerators and will begin repairs sometimes this week.
