Ford Recalls 2024 Mustang Over Loose Brake Pedal, Owners Told Not To Drive Their Cars

Internally known as S650, Ford's latest and greatest Mustang yet has been hit with its first safety recall. A handful of vehicles are believed to have been equipped with loose brake pedals from the factory, which is why the Ford Motor Company advises owners to stop driving said vehicles.
How did the Dearborn-based automaker learn about said concern? It all started with a pre-delivery inspection, which prompted the dealership to file a report. As per documents published on the NHTSA's website, the Critical Concern Review Group started looking into this worrying matter on November 9.

The Plant Vehicle Team at Flat Rock, as well as the Supplier Technical Assistance division and Ventramex S.A. DE C.V. determined that the Mexico-based supplier removed a small number of rejected brake pedal assemblies from quarantine. Those rejected assemblies were shipped to Flat Rock. A grand total of 69 suspect assemblies are believed to have been shipped, of which 32 were installed in Mustang vehicles.

34 additional vehicles had their brake pedals replaced (without traceability) at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant due to squeaks and rattles. Those 34 are included in this recall out of an abundance of caution. As you'd expect, recall number 23V-800 concerns no fewer than 66 vehicles produced for the 2024 model year. Production dates range between June 7, 2023 and October 25, 2023.

Ford omitted to mention which version of the Mustang is recalled, although a closer look at the PDF attached below clears that mystery up. The affected part numbers are for both automatic- and manual-equipped vehicles, meaning that we're dealing with V8-powered versions of the Mustang.

As you're well aware, the EcoBoost comes with Ford's 10-speed automatic exclusively. Regarding the six-speed manual, it should be noted that Ford uses two such transmissions in the S650: a Getrag for the GT and a Tremec for the Dark Horse. Unfortunately, it's not known whether this recall involves the GT or the better-handling and punchier Dark Horse.

Ford highlights that the lifter mechanism at the supplier's flaring station sustained damage due to a misaligned part, therefore resulting in a missed flaring operation. A missing flare on the brake pedal arm pivot tube can result in a loose pedal if the pivot tube becomes unseated. Other than the aforementioned dealer's report, the US automaker isn't aware of any reports related to this condition.

Dealers have already been instructed to inspect and replace suspect brake pedal assemblies with properly manufactured assemblies. Owners will be informed by the Dearborn-based automaker via first-class mail in the period from December 18 to December 22.

As a brief refresher, the most affordable 'Stang in production today is the coupe-bodied EcoBoost at $30,920 (sans destination charge and extras). The V8-engined GT starts at $42,495, whereas the Dark Horse kicks off at $59,270 with the manual tranny.
