Ford is introducing a massive recall initiative that is seeing the company introduce two separate campaign that total almost half a million vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today announced that the Blue Oval is recalling more than 244,000 units of the Ford Escape crossovers belonging to the 2001 and 2002 model years. This is due to a potential master brake cylinder reservoir cap leak.
This could cause corrosion on an electrical connector that is part of the ABS system, and could pose a melting, smoke or fire risk. Owners will be announced starting January 23, but the campaign might not debut immediately due to a shortage of parts. Thus, “Ford will instruct owners to park their vehicles outside until such time as parts become available.”
As for the rest of the cars, we are talking about almost 206,000 units of the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey from the 2004 and 2005 model year. In this case, the minivans are being recalled due to faulty torque converter output shafts. This can cause a sudden loss of power, with the recall scheduled to begin n the second calendar quarter of 2012.
