Ford Racing Discusses Future of the Mustang Cobra Jet

Ford Racing has just released a new video, showing interesting footage of the newest incarnation of the 2012 Mustang Cobra Jet that is being assembled at the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

The most important part of the video is the few bits of information revealed by various members of the Ford Racing team. First off, Jesse Kershaw, the Drag Racing Competition Manager for Ford Racing confirms their commitment to privateer drag racing and customers.

"We embrace the sportsman racer,” Kershaw says. “The sportsman racer is really an advocate for us in the marketplace. This is the person that on the street other family and friends turn to for advice, so the better we’re able to support them and the better they understand what Ford’s doing is a benefit to us.”

Further on in the video, Mark Wilson, the Engineering Manager at Ford Racing, makes suggestions of some new developments coming in the future from Ford Racing.

“We’ve got a couple cool cars in the works,” he states. “We’re in the planning stages right now. Customers will definitely be happy, it’s something we haven’t done before. They’re going to be very excited. We are going to be testing this summer. ‘Coming Soon’ I guess is the best way to say it.

The 2012 model will get a revised version of the supercharged 5.4-liter V8, with an aluminum block now coming standard. The newest version also gets an optimized suspension system, upgraded brakes, black anodized Weld Racing wheels, and new compound Goodyear tires. Three colors will be available: Race Red, Grabber Blue, and Winner White. Pricing will starts at $91,900 and can go up to $103,980 with graphics and supercharger options.
