Ford Model A Museum Planned

American manufacturer Ford will forever be mentioned by the history books as the first automaker to have given the automobile to the masses. What has become of Ford over the years, good or bad, is a different story, but one which will not change the facts.

It's only natural that a carmaker which meant so much for the industry and the world get the needed recognition. A recognition which is just as well deserved by the models which became the basis for the world we know today.

To honor the Model A, the equally successful successor of the Model T (about 5 million Model As where sold in between 1927 and 1931), the Model A Ford Foundation plans to erect a museum in its honor.

To be located in Hickory Corners, Michigan, at the Gilmore Car Museum, the facility will be made to look like an old Ford dealership. The construction of the museum will cost about $1.6 million, with most of the money hoped to be raised from donations.

"The museum ... will be more than just a car collection," Art Callan, the executive director of the Model A Ford Foundation, said according to Freeo. "It will take you on a journey through the Model A years -- the end of the Roaring '20s, the stock market crash in '29."

The museum will comprise not only automobiles, but will also be the place to go for those interested in engines, artifacts, factory photos or blueprints.

"It was an affordable and very popular automobile that was owned and enjoyed by close to five million people,"
added Michael Spezia, Gilmore Car Museum director. "We are especially happy to welcome the Model A Ford Museum to our campus."
