Ford India Opens 28 Dealerships in One Day...

... or talking about confidence. The Indian built Figo hasn't even properly began production at the Chennai India plant and Ford announced it will boost the number of its local dealerships to 164, after opening no less than 28 in a single day...

With the new addition, opened in 24 cities, the American manufacturer is now represented in 97 cities across India and all thanks to the new Figo.

“Growing our dealership base, building strong business fundamentals and getting closer to our customers are areas of high priority as we gear up to launch our new Figo and enter this high volume segment in 2010,” Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India said.

“Tier II and III cities are significant for Ford.  We have opened new facilities in 13 Tier III cities today, and more than 40 percent of Ford service outlets are now located in secondary markets."

“As we expand, we are making sure that our low cost of ownership message is heard by people making buying decisions."

The Figo (which in Italian is colloquial for "cool"), designed and built entirely in India, follows the kinetic design cues the manufacturer uses in its vehicles around the world. The four wheels of the vehicles will have minimum overhang, while the side window graphic is made with the use of a blacked-out B-pillar, making the windows look like one.

The car will be powered by a dedicated 1.2l petrol engine, as well as by Ford's 1.4l Duratorq diesel engine.
