Ford in China: 44 Percent Increase in 2009

We already knew that China is a top market for all carmakers out there and sales figures that have been emerging since January 1 come to confirm this. Ford for instance performed at least impressive in China, with the US-based manufacturer recording a 44 percent increase in 2009 as compared to the previous year.

Ford and its joint-ventures in China sold a total of 440,619 units last year, according to official figures. Ford Motor’s passenger car joint-venture in China, Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA) sold a total of 315,791 units for 2009, an increase of 55 percent year-over-year.

“We continued to launch world-class Ford vehicles in China, further expanding our vehicle lineup to suit a wider range of China consumer tastes, requirements and lifestyles," said Robert Graziano, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China.

"Our record sales performance in 2009 was driven by the incredible response that Chinese consumers continue to have for Ford brand vehicles, and reaffirmed that we have the right plan, and the right products, to continue driving the success of our China business."

Ford Fiesta is obviously one of the best-selling models in China, with 2009 sales reaching 47,358 units. Ford Focus achieved its best-ever full-year sales in 2009 with 134,336 units, raising the overall figures since its official debut in China in 2005 to more than 450,000 units.

"In 2010, we plan to build on our success in China by continuing to offer Ford products that are among best-in-class in safety, quality, fuel efficiency, technology and design," added Graziano.

"The introduction of our Ford EcoBoost engine and Powershift transmission technologies will help support our drive for sustainable mobility by increasing the fuel efficiency and reducing emissions."
