Ford Has Over 1,000 Orders for New Fiesta ST in Britain

The new Ford Fiesta ST is a hit before most potential buyers even got to drive one. That really comes as no surprise to us. The old one was relatively cheap, decent to drive and look at, but was only around for a couple of years before the old sexy-face here came along and they had to stop making STs.

For a while, Ford of Europe tried the old "oh look, we have a 120 hp 1.6-liter with a really cool name (Zetec) that's almost as good as the 150 hp car you actually want". We never like that car since it was kind of overpriced and overdressed for what it offered, until last year they finally unveiled the new Fiesta ST.

A lot of Brits fans of the car probably went 'hurrah' and went ahead and ordered one when it became available. Ford of Britain says it's already sold 1000 of these little cuties, which doesn't sound like but is actually a visible chunk of all Fiesta sales.

In addition, because the car is cheaper than most of its competitor, people went for the better trimmed ST2 version, which adds partial leather Recaro seats, Sony DAB radio, EATC, Ford keyless start, privacy glass and LED daytime running lamps to the standard specification of 17-inch alloy wheels, ST front fog lights, DAB radio, SYNC connectivity, Thatcham CAT 1 alarm, Recaro seats and My Key.

Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain managing director, said: “Our Fiesta ST offers the winning combination of accessible pricing, exhilarating performance and outstanding economy.  Expert commentators have described the car as sensational, praising its agility, responsiveness and addictive fun - yet with every-day practicality.  The rush of early orders proves our customers agree with this assessment too.”
As a reminder, the hot supermini from Ford is powered by the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine producing 182 PS.
