Ford Focus Electric Charging Station Introduced

When an electric vehicle is launched, it must be introduced onto the market with an extra piece of hardware, one which is absent all together when you buy an ICE-powered car: an electric cord.

That electric cord is, however, completely useless if you have no hole to stick one of its ends into. So far, the two manufacturers who have launched electric vehicles have announced both cords and charging stations to go with the models they are selling.

The third car maker to launch an electric vehicle onto the market, Ford, introduced today the charging station which will go with the Focus EV. Developed together with Leviton, the unit has one big advantage: it is not permanent.

This means you'll have to make no other holes in your wall, you will not be forced to call to your home the entire electric utility workforce to make the system blend nicely with the home's wiring, you'll not be forced to rip it all apart when replacing it.

Instead, you can plug the charging station to any 240-volt outlet. That's right. You plug the station into an outlet and the car into the station. It works, if you like, just like an adapter. And it will work with all Ford plug-in hybrids and EVs.

“We’re delivering an industry-leading charge station that offers customers not only the best value, but also tremendous flexibility,”
said Mike Tinskey, manager of vehicle electrification and infrastructure, Ford Motor Company. “It’s just one part of how Ford is making Focus Electric a simpler driving solution for customers.”
