Talk about a guy with a huge love for the open road... We've seen incredible numbers on the odometers before, but we are used to associate those big numbers with several years of travel. That's not the case with the Ford F-250 owned by Phil Marsella.
The owner of the truck, which he calls Betsy, managed to travel until the odometer on his car went berserk. Four years after the man bought the pick-up, the odometer reached 999,999 miles and, terrified by the scope of a seven-digit number, froze.
Marsella is currently doing anywhere in between 7,000 and 10,000 miles a week, but the odometer refuses to budge. It still shows 999,999. But if you think that's about to stop Marsella, you're wrong.
The driver says he himself is now the odometer, as he keeps track of every mile driven. According to what he was able to count so far, the F-250 has 1,012,572 miles traveled.
With such a history behind it, the pick-up needs some state of the art maintenance. Marsella takes the vehicle in for servicing at a local service. There, the mechanics are quite found of the car.
"I've never seen a truck with this many miles besides a semi-truck. Never on a gas engine," Buddy Hawkins, one of the mechanics who usually work on the car, told NBC Miami.
Betsy will continue to accompany Marsella on his greyhounds-deliveries across the US in the years to come as well. The owner plans to fix the odometer so that he could keep a close eye on the miles driven, but there's no telling on that will happen.
