The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a preliminary investigation on 400,000 Ford F-150 pickup trucks after several owners have reported engine related issues.
All the vehicles concerned were built for the 2011-2013 model year are powered by the company’s turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 Ecoboost engines and, according to the NHTSA, 95 complaints have reported reduced power under hard acceleration. However, no crashes or accidents have been reported yet.
This is not the first time when Ford has trouble with its V6-powered F-150. The Blue Oval has already issued technical service bulletins over acceleration glitches in humid or damp conditions for its 2011-2012 vehicles.
"Many reports allege safety concerns associated with overtaking vehicles," said the NHTSA, who will perform a preliminary evaluation to determine whether the trucks in question have a safety-related defect.
