The NHTSA has begun an investigation focused on the braking system of the 2015-2016 Ford F-150. The organization started the inquiry after receiving multiple complaints from American customers.
Ford’s F-150 is the best selling vehicle in North America, so the 25 complaints received by the NHTSA are enough to trigger an immediate investigation to determine whether there is something wrong with the model. Approximately 282,000 Ford F-150 vehicles are in the configuration that might be affected by this potential issue.
We are writing about the 2015 and 2016 Ford F-150 models that have a 3.5-liter engine. Customer complaints have mentioned problems with the effectiveness of the brake system, which was claimed to have suddenly and completely failed. Miraculously, no accidents have been caused or linked to this situation.

From what we can discern from looking at claims regarding the 2016 model year of the F-150, customers have suffered sudden brake failure, or significant loss in brake assistance.
One of them said that the brake master cylinder had failed, while another complaint noted that the car had issues with the brakes since it was purchased.
The latter case brings occasional failure of the brakes, as if the vacuum mechanism of the master cylinder is not operational, or the brake fluid is no longer present on the line in sufficient quantity to ensure satisfactory operation.
Another customer mentioned in his or her complaint that he or she discovered that there was a recall of the brake master cylinder for the 2013-2014 Ford F-150 models, but it is unclear whether the Blue Oval will have to do this for the 2015-2016 units.
A Ford spokesperson told Automotive News that the company is cooperating with federal safety officials on the matter. This is not the first inquiry focused on vehicles made by the Blue Oval, as the 2010 Fusion sedan is also subject to an investigation that was posted on the NHTSA’ website this week, and so was the 2011-2013 Edge SUV.
