Ford Escort Rally Legend to Be Auctioned

Another one of the most famous cars to hit the mud and gravel circuit, the Ford Escort rally car, will go under the hammer in Brooklands on the 4th of December this year.

The car started its life in 1968, when it was given a full makeover by Ford’s famous Boreham Competition department. A set of rally style lights, the famous bulbous wheel arches, lighter wheels and modifications to the suspension: all these are functional elements which became cult objects for rally enthusiasts, offering the vehicle a special aura.

First contact with the gravel track was at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1969, with the car being driven by Jean Todt, the current FIA president. The Escort then saw action at the San Remo Rally, in the skillful hands of Hannu Mikkola, who went on to win his forth RAC Rally trophy.

Adding to the long list of rally legends to drive it is Roger Clark, who drove it in Ireland and Ove Andersson who went on to win the Welsh Rally.

After its long successful run, it was fully restored by the current vendor and Rally Sport Development, being brought to a top condition. The vehicle is offered for sale, having a complete history file. This documents the car’s entire life, offering the future owner an interesting experience.

The vehicle is offered with an invitation to the 2011 “Slowly Sideways” event, which is held annually in Germany.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
