Ford has announced that the 2013 Escape is the first-ever small utility vehicle to sell more than 150,000 units in the first six months of the year.
The third-generation Escape sold 156,626 examples from January through June 2013, and Ford claims the crossover will break its all-time annual sales record of 261,008 vehicles, which was achieved last year.
“The Ford Escape’s great performance, standout design and outstanding fuel economy are bringing new buyers into the showroom,” said Amy Marentic, group marketing manager, global cars and crossovers. “It’s great to see Escape break new ground, which shows we are listening to customers and delivering competitive global vehicles.”
The Blue Oval-badged company also announced that the Ford Escape outsold the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 in the first half of the year and that top trade-ins for Escape came from Honda and Toyota owners.
Production of the third-generation Ford Escape began on April 4, 2012, at the company’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky.
