Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor to Retire From Duty

The Ford Crown Victoria police car spent 15 years of its lifetime serving America’s low enforcing forces. But as foreseen, it journey must come to an end. The last Crown Victoria Police Interceptor will roll of the assembly line in September this year. Now the police departments across the U.S. will have to decide on which four-door sedan to buy, as related by Motor Authority.

Their needs are similar in many aspects to the ones of a normal civilian customer. We expect that priority will be given to rear-wheel-drive V-8 powertrains. Also V6 platforms are being considered, equipped with all wheel drive. A must-have is the ability to carry passengers and gear. The back seats must be able to accommodate more than one person, and equipment of varying shapes and sizes has to fit in the trunk.

Passenger comfort isn’t a priority at least in the back seat , but there should be adequate legroom front and back. Also the maintenance and repairs must be cheaply and easily performed because we have to take into consideration that taxpayers don’t want to spend more than they have to on oil changes and the inevitable repair jobs.

Going off on a  tangent, we'd like to mention that European manufacturers make awesome Police cars too. We’d also mention the Italians Lamborghini Gallardo police car or the Germans Porsche 911 that also “serves and protects”, but let’s face it - none of those cars would fit the U.S. police force. Beside, we can not imagine any police department which would be willing to have a fleet of foreign cars instead of an old-fashion “American muscle”.
