First showcased in Australia in August 2013, the Ford Everest Concept was also present at this year's Beijing Auto Show. Recent inside info hints that the production version of the SUV will be launched in China as soon as May 2015, with sales commencing five months later.
Chinese car manufacturer Jiangling Motors has operated a commercial vehicle joint venture with Ford since 1997. JMC will also manufacture the heavily anticipated model locally, with prices starting from around 250.000 yuan and topping at 400.000 yuan. That translates in $40,000 to $60,000 at current rates, which isn't exactly cheap for the usual Chinese customer.

Underpinned by the Ford Ranger pickup truck, the current generation Ford Everest is sold only in Asian markets, Australia and South America. According to official sources, the China-only Everest SUV will be offered with a selection of three engines. Starting with a 2.0-liter turbo four-pot and a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated mill, the engine range will be completed by an economical 2.4-liter turbo diesel unit.

Bearing the design trademark of Ford's Asia Pacific design team, the concept version of the SUV features rough-and-ready styling, dominated by strong, angular lines, an inverted trapezoid front grille and chunky wheel arches.

"The Ford Everest Concept shows how we envision cementing our leadership in the SUV segment with a rugged and versatile vehicle that combines stunning design with the promise of incredible off-road capability," declared John Lawler, CEO of Ford China, at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. "We see a strong market in China for a vehicle like the Ford Everest Concept, which would expand and complement our existing world-class family of SUVs."
