Ford Announces Focus Engine Range

Ford has released the European engine range for the new Focus, a vehicle that is scheduled to enter the market early next year.

The automotive producer has decided to use an efficiency-based approach, fitting all the petrol and diesel units with a stop-start system as a standard feature.

The petrol part of the range includes two naturally-aspirated versions of the 1.6 liter engine, which offer 105 and 125 hp. The unit also comes in a turbocharged incarnation, which also offers two output levels. The first one delivers 150 hp, while the second one produces 180 hp.

The beefiest petrol unit takes the Fiesta past the 62 mph (100 km/h) mark in 7.9 seconds, while returning a fuel efficiency of 39 U.S. mpg (six liters per 100 km) and emitting 139 grams of CO2 per km.

Customers who want a diesel engine will be able to choose between two versions of a 1.6 liter TDCI and three incarnations of a revised 2.0 liter TDCI. The entry level 1.6 liter TDCI develops 95 hp, being followed by a 115 hp version. As for the 2.0 liter TDCI, this offers 115, 140 or 163 hp.

The Focus range will also offer a hot-hatch version, the ST, which has been previewed by the ST Concept at the Paris Auto Show. This will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol unit that will let the driver play with 250 hp, which will be sent to the road via the front axle. The new powerplant will also use the efficiency pathway, as it will come with a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption, compared to the 225 hp five-cylinder turbocharged unit it replaces.
