Ford Adds New Colors on Fiesta, Focus and Explorer

With the Fiesta, Focus and Explorer models in their prime, there's little American manufacturer Ford can do to increase the appeal of the cars. This, however, doesn't mean that a little nip'n'tuck here and there won't do wonders for the sales numbers.

Taking advantage of the arrival of spring, Ford decided to refresh the range a bit by adding a few more colors to the offering of the Fiesta, Focus and Explorer. The decision to bring a wider choice of colors to the market was made after Ford conducted a study to see what colors sell best where.

Finding out that bright colors are popular in warm cities and gray and silver are favorite on the coasts, Ford decided to launch the following new colors on the aforementioned models: Blue Candy, Race Red and Ginger Ale.

“We’ve refreshened, we’ve added new colors, we’re continuing to evolve our paint color palette,” said Susan Swek, Ford’s group chief designer for Color and Materials. “There’s always new colors coming out because customer tastes change, just as they do in fashion.”

“The best way to describe the new Blue Candy is juicy. Its clear coat isn’t clear at all -- it’s tinted blue and is absolutely gorgeous.”

Unfortunately, no images with the new colors have been yet made public. Ford will begin selling the new colors later in the year, with an additional color, Frosted Glass, to be added on the Focus range next year.

“It’s important to get the right color into the market at the right time,”
Swek added. “Too early and it won’t have registered on the customers’ radar. Too late and the popularity of a particular color may have already reached its peak.”
