Fisker is currently not building any cars, due to a shortage of battery packs, caused by the bankruptcy and the sale of their sole supplier, A123 Systems, which was taken over by Wanxiang, from China. Now, the company is looking to partner up with a major automaker, in order to share its range-extender hybrid technology, as well as gain more manufacturing capacity and expertise, an area in which their Karma could use some improvements, as it is not the best built car in the world.
Even the company CEO, Tony Posawatz is well-aware of the fact that they simply can`t achieve ‘success’ on their own, in this day and age. They are now reportedly in talks with three important names in the industry, and a deal could be finalized as early as next year. Posawatz said: “We are absolutely committed to making this company win longer term and the history of smaller companies living on their own in their automotive business is not stellar.”
Still, they are pushing forth their plans to build a technical center in the Midwest, which once built, will be the place where they will improve their range-extender hybrid drivetrain, which already meets the 2025 emissions standards in the US, so it is definitely an easy way for some companies to get aboard the green train, without too much effort, while also helping Fisker make some money in the process.
