Do the BMW Art Car project and the Dodge Viper ACR-X have anything in common? Apparently, they do.
Just as Dodge put the current generation of the Viper out of production, the company debuted the Dodge Viper Cup series season, with the series using Viper ACR-X vehicles.
The inaugural race, which was held during the weekend, was won by a racecar wearing a livery that looks almost like the one used on the 17th episode of the BMW Art Car saga. The latter is a BMW M3 GT2 racer that has been dressed by Jeff Koons. The artist used a collage of images that show race cars traveling at great speed to create the unique livery covering the car’s body.
However, in term of motorsport results, the two vehicles couldn’t have been more different. Let us explain. While the Viper ACR-X took the first win in the Dodge Viper Cup series season with Ben Keating leading the race from start to finish, the BMW M3 GT2 wasn’t so successful. The vehicle was entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race that took place in France on June 12-13, but it was forced to retire early in the race.
Going back to the Viper, we must mention that Ben Keating lead the race from start to finish, offering the BMW Art Car-inspired Viper a glorious run. The second place was taken by Jeff Courtney, who was only one second behind the leader. The podium was completed by Ryan Schmisk.
