BMW was certainly ready to launch the first ever BMW M4 Convertible and they did so through all the possible virtual ways: photos, press release and a video.
After going through the first two, it’s time to take a look at the video that is just 1 minute and 23 seconds long but has plenty of essence to walk us through the open-top experience the new M4 will provide.

While the choice of music in the background could’ve been better, the way the car looks is absolutely perfect. With wide fenders at the back and a luxurious interior, there’s little more you could wish for from such a car.

The specs are also pretty impressive but we think better results could’ve been achieved. The weight is the biggest problem here, as the folding mechanism for the roof adds up, slowing down the open top experience compared to the coupe.

With a DIN weight of 1,750 kg (3,858 lbs), the Convertible is 253 kg (557.7 lbs) heavier which translates into a 0.3 seconds slower vehicle than its brother. That means the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint is done in 4.4 seconds with the 7-speed DCT gearbox and 4.6 seconds with the manual 6-speed unit.

As for the fuel consumption figures, compared to the outgoing E93 M3, the new M4 is 25 percent less thirsty with a combined 8.7 l/100 km (27 mpg) for the auto and 9.1 l/100 km (25.8 mpg) for the manual. Prices for the new car haven’t been released yet but BMW said it will be making a statement in this regard at the New York Auto Show, later this month.
